In lion dance, the drum does not just keep time — it narrates the lion's emotions, from cautious approach to triumphant leap. A great lion dance drum must be loud enough to lead a crowd outdoors, responsive enough for subtle rhythmic shifts, and tough enough to travel from temple to stage to street.
Our lion dance drums are handmade in Matun Village using solid hardwood shells and natural cowhide, stretched and nailed by craftsmen who have spent decades tuning drums for performing troupes. The result is a drum with a punchy attack, a deep sustained voice, and the durability to perform season after season.
