Lion Dance Drums for US Troupes
Made for outdoor parade, festival, and competition performance. Sized for the way American teams actually play — loud, projecting, road-tested.
What US Lion Dance Teams Actually Need
Lion dance in the United States has matured into a competitive, year-round practice. Teams rehearse indoors but perform outdoors — at Lunar New Year parades, summer night markets, school festivals, restaurant grand openings, and competition circuits from coast to coast.
Your drum has to cut through crowd noise at 30 feet, survive van-truck transport between gigs, and hold tuning through temperature swings from January cold to August humidity. A drum that sounds great in a workshop but dies outside is a liability.
Our lion dance drums are made specifically for this — solid hardwood shells, hand-stretched first-layer hide, iron hardware, and the punchy attack that drives a lion across the stage.

Four Things US Buyers Should Decide Up Front
Confirming these before quoting means faster delivery and no surprises at the door.
Hide vs Synthetic Head
Cowhide gives the traditional voice and is what most judges expect to hear at competitions. Synthetic (Remo / Evans style) is more stable in dry indoor venues and won't stretch in dry winter air. Most troupes buy hide for performance and 1–2 synthetic for travel backup.
Nail-Tuned vs Bolt-Tension
Nail-tuned (traditional) is what you'll see at most US competitions. Bolt-tension rims are easier to re-tune in the field — useful if your team travels frequently.
Shell Material
Poplar for bright attack. Toon for warmer bass. Catalpa for balanced response. Most US teams order poplar for that cutting projection.
Hardware & Strap
Iron rings + cotton strap are standard. If your drummers wear the drum on a stand for solo passages, order the optional iron stand.
